Quarantine Diaries

Week One

by Taylor Wiss

Day 1 - Thursday, March 12, 2020

Yesterday, Kirk Schulz, the president of Washington State University, emailed all the students, telling them that all WSU campuses will be switching to distance learning after Spring Break...This shall be fun.

Today, the Coronavirus was officially labeled as a pandemic.

Day 2 - Friday, March 13, 2020

It snowed today...It's March..What is happening in the world?!? Didn't do much today. Just stayed home and watched television. I feel like this is what my life is going to be like for a while.

Today, Washington Governor, Jay Inslee, expanded his K-12 school closure statewide. This means that all K-12 schools in Washington will be closed by March 17 until at least April 24. My sister is now stuck at home for at least the next six weeks....What am I going to do with her?!?

Day 3 - Saturday, March 14, 2020

Today, me and my mother went to Target and Costco. It was weird. There was no toilet paper, nor paper towels. The shelves were completely empty. What I don't understand is why there was so much hand soap and cleaning supplies, yet no toilet paper...What are people thinking?

There are now about 570 COVID-19 cases in Washington. The death toll is 40. It is crazy that our first case was at the end of January, yet we are just now recieving orders to stay at home.

Day 4 - Sunday, March 15, 2020

Today, me, my mother, and my sister went to Ikea. I needed a new desk so that I can start distance learning. We just tried to keep our distance from everyone and not touch our faces.

The Washington Emergency Management is telling Washington residents to have two weeks of food and supplies on hand...Governor Inslee has now limited the size of gatherings to a maximum of 50 people. He also said that all gatherings under 50 people are prohibited unless social distancing standards are being met. He has also now closed all bars and restaurants, allowing take-out and delivery services only.

Day 5 - Monday, March 16, 2020

Didn't do much today as I am currently in Spring Break. Not that there would be much to do anyway with this virus.

Today, Governor Inslee signed the emergency proclamation that officially banned gatherings of more than 50 people and announced the statewide shutdown of restaurants and bars.

Day 6 - Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Today, I mostly just watched television and played games. It feels weird having my sister home. Almost feels as though it's summer time, yet we are not able to go anywhere.

Today, Governor Inslee spoke out saying that residents need to stay away from virtually anyone else in Washington state.

Day 7 - Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Today was similar to the past few days. Just hung around and watched television while playing some games.

Today, Governor Inslee signed emergency proclamations that prohibits residential evictions statewide for 30 days based on certain conditions. Does this mean that it is going to continue on for 30 more days?!? We are only on day 7 and I don't know how much more I can take of this.
