A Popular Nordstrom Tale starts with a customer
who returned a set of used tires.
It may sound far-fetched, but it actually happened.
Nordstrom never sold tires, but in 1975,
purchased four stores from a company that did
"Northern Commercial of Alaska"
The Northern Commercial Company sold a wide range
of goods, from linens to automotive supplies.
when nordstrom took over, the offering was scaled back
to shoes, apparel, cosmetics and accessories.
Then one day, a customer broght a set of
faulty tires and asked to re turn them
The salesperson did the right thing,
accepting the tires for a full refund.
The customer walked away happy
This webpage is a narrative design, it is to treat the user’s
experience as a narrative structure. I chose to tell “the tire
story” from Nordstrom. This story is posted in backrooms of every
Nordstrom’s. It is meant to encourage employees to use their
best judgment when servicing customers. Nordstrom believes in
empowering their employees, and this is a great example of it.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was making the page scroll
horizontal. I accomplished this by going into Professor Luers
office and spending time making the outline what I envisioned.
I accomplished making the page horizontal by making the body 7000px.
Another part of this project I faced was the typography.
I didn't know how to make it look clean but not boring.
I took a picture of the "Tire Story" that was hanging in
Nordstrom's backroom and used the color scheme they used for
the picture. Thank you for reading my story! –Tia
