The next best-selling Smash Brothers game was released on November 21, 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube. Melee sold more than 7 Million Copies worldwide and it’s the best-selling game on the GameCube. Critics and Fans loved the new characters introduced and the added features. In fact, a competitive scene started to form within a year after the games release. Competitive players love the game for its fast pace and hard to master technical moves such as wavedashing. The amount of content in this game compared to its predecessor is mind blowing.
The amount of content added into Melee is astonishing considering the short time for development. However, there was a long wait for the next Smash Brothers game. The next game had way more content than Melee.
