Monte Cristos

Inspired by the Disneyland dish
A savory sweet Southern dish made famous by Disneyland in the Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans restaurants. Ham, Turkey, and Swiss sandwich deep fried in a light egg batter. Served with powdered sugar and jelly or mustard.

Ingredients

Batter

  • 1 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour, sifted
  • 1/4 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tbsp. Baking Powder
  • 1 Egg

Sandwich

  • 1 oz. sliced Turkey Meat
  • 1 oz. sliced Ham
  • 1 oz. sliced Swiss Cheese
  • 2 slices White Bread

Other

  • Canola Oil
  • Powdered Sugar
  • (Optional) Berry jelly of any flavor
  • (Optional) Mustar

Directions

Making the Batter

  • 1) Sift flour, salt, and baking powder together.
  • 2) Beat egg and add water.
  • 3) Add water and egg to flour mixture and mix well. Set aside.

Putting it Together

  • 1) Heat oil in a frying pan to 360 degrees. Watch the heat; if it begins to smoke then turn the heat down.
  • 2) While oil is heating up, make the sandwich using first turkey, then Swiss cheese, and then ham.
  • 3) Cut the sandwich into quarters and use wooden toothpicks to hold the sandwich together.
  • 4) Dip sandwich in egg batter and fry in oil one at a time until golden brown.
  • 5) Remove toothpicks and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • (Optional) Serve with jelly of choice, or mustard.
